Dioressence by Dior is a chypre spicy Eau de Toilette originally created in 1979 by perfumer Max Gavarry.

Recognised as the House of Dior’s first amber fragrance, Dioressence explores the meeting point between Dior’s floral elegance and a deeper, more sensual character. Patchouli forms a defining part of the composition, surrounded by classic florals, oakmoss and benzoin to create a fragrance with warmth, depth and animalic magnetism.

In 2026, Dioressence returns as part of The Dioriginals, a collection of emblematic Dior fragrances restored by Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creative Director, with the aim of recovering their original formulas. The restored fragrance is presented in the historic 1948-inspired bottle associated with Christian Dior’s earliest perfume creations.

What Does Dioressence Smell Like?

Dioressence opens with orange, bringing a bright citrus freshness before the fragrance moves into its richer floral heart.

Rose, jasmine and geranium create a full floral bouquet, balancing the softness of rose and jasmine with the greener, more aromatic character of geranium.

The dry down reveals the fragrance’s chypre structure through earthy oakmoss and patchouli, warmed by smooth, resinous benzoin. The result is a sensual floral chypre with citrus brightness, rich flowers and a deep, warm base of moss, patchouli and ambered resins.
