Black Salt by Heretic is a dark aquatic fragrance inspired by the beach after nightfall, capturing a coastline of stormy water, wet rock, seaweed and salt rather than sun-warmed sand.

Created from Heretic's master perfumer's long-held desire to distil the atmosphere of the beach at night, Black Salt transforms the traditional summer marine fragrance into something moodier and more mineralic. The composition draws on briny marine materials, nocturnal flowers, aromatic botanicals and earthy resins to evoke a wild, windswept shore beneath a moonless sky.

Mysterious and elemental, Black Salt explores the darker side of the ocean through contrasts of sparkling citrus, cold aromatics, smoky salt, florals and rain-soaked earth.

What Does Black Salt Smell Like?

Black Salt opens with a sharp flash of lime and tangerine, immediately contrasted by black pepper and cool eucalyptus. The effect is bright but stormy, with citrus cutting through a cold, mineralic marine atmosphere.

The heart introduces jasmine sambac, Turkish rose and water lily, creating a nocturnal floral accord surrounded by smoked sea salt. Rather than feeling conventionally pretty or aquatic, the flowers take on a darker, wetter character against the salty backdrop.

Seaweed becomes prominent in the dry down, bringing a distinctly briny, green quality alongside resinous labdanum and petrichor's impression of rain hitting earth and stone. The result is a dark marine fragrance that smells salty, mineralic, green and earthy, capturing the atmosphere of a wild coastline after a storm.
