Product Overview

Dirty Hinoki by Heretic is a woody aromatic fragrance inspired by shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of forest bathing, and the ancient hinoki forests of Yakushima island in southern Japan.

The composition is designed to evoke the multi-sensory experience of standing among immense, centuries-old trees and breathing deeply into the surrounding woodland. Hinoki wood forms the backbone of the fragrance, surrounded by cedar, cypress, Siberian fir, balsam and resinous materials that recreate the aromatic complexity of a living forest.

Grounding yet fresh, Dirty Hinoki captures both the stillness and vitality of woodland through citrus, crushed herbs, coniferous woods and sacred resins.

What Does Dirty Hinoki Smell Like?

Dirty Hinoki opens crisp and aromatic with lemon, pine and Himalayan cedar, sharpened by nutmeg and crushed thyme. The effect is green, dry and invigorating, reminiscent of cool air moving through aromatic woodland.

Hinoki takes centre stage through the heart, bringing its distinctive smooth, citrusy and subtly herbal woodiness alongside fresh cypress. Rather than becoming heavy or smoky, the woods retain an airy, almost ethereal quality.

The dry down becomes deeper and more resinous through elemi, Siberian fir, balsam and frankincense, with wormwood contributing herbal bitterness and Ambrettolide adding a soft musky texture. The result is a complex forest scent that feels green, woody, resinous and quietly meditative.
