Product Overview

Häxan by Heretic is a dark floral chypre inspired by the groundbreaking 1922 silent film Häxan, a fictional documentary exploring witchcraft, paganism and their place throughout history. Its name, pronounced “HEK-sen”, translates from Swedish as “The Witch”.

Conceived as something closer to an olfactory ritual than conventional adornment, Häxan draws upon flowers, moss, resins and musk to evoke poison gardens, sacred groves, ancient woodland and smouldering altars. The composition centres on velvety osmanthus, Turkish rose and oakmoss before descending into fossilised amber and skin-like musks.

Rich, earthy and atmospheric, Häxan explores the darker facets of botanical perfumery through a composition that feels simultaneously floral, resinous, mossy and animalic.

What Does Häxan Smell Like?

Häxan opens with osmanthus absolute, revealing the flower's distinctive combination of velvety apricot, floral sweetness and leathery depth. It feels lush and slightly narcotic rather than conventionally fresh.

Turkish rose emerges through the heart with a deep, ripe floral character, while oakmoss absolute introduces damp greenery, earth and an animalic forest-floor quality. Together, they shift the fragrance away from straightforward florals into something darker, textured and distinctly mossy.

Fossilised amber creates a warm, smouldering resinous base, softened by supernatural musks that sit close to the skin. The result is a shadowy floral chypre of apricot-toned osmanthus, dark rose, damp oakmoss, ancient amber and spectral musk.
