Product Overview

CŒUR by Yves Saint Laurent is an ambery spicy fragrance created by perfumer Daniela Andrier as an olfactory tribute to Yves Saint Laurent's iconic good-luck talisman.

The original CŒUR fétiche was an extravagant heart-shaped jewel created for Saint Laurent in “real fake diamonds and rubies”. Present from the opening of his fashion house at 30 bis rue Spontini in December 1961, it would be delivered before each collection and worn by the couturier's favourite model. Unlike jewellery created specifically for his shows, Saint Laurent kept the CŒUR in his own Rue de Babylone apartment.

For the fragrance, Andrier transforms the jewel's contrast of glowing red stones and cold metallic structure into a radical interpretation of amber. Traditionally warm and enveloping, the amber accord is pierced with cool aldehydes to create a metallic glint and an unusual hot-and-cold tension. Orris, lavender, resins and woods complete a genderless composition that feels unmistakably rooted in Saint Laurent's taste for provocation and contrast.

What Does CŒUR Smell Like?

CŒUR opens with icy aldehydes, creating a clean, metallic brightness against the aromatic spice of Guatemalan cardamom.

The heart softens without losing that tension. Ourika lavender brings aromatic freshness, while precious French orris butter contributes powdery violet nuances and a smooth, buttery texture. A floral accord adds further lift around the iris.

The dry down reveals the fragrance's warmer side through a rich amber accord, softened by almond and grounded in Virginia cedarwood and Indonesian patchouli. Myrrh and cistus deepen the composition with resinous, balsamic warmth, while musk creates a smooth finish. The result is an unusual amber that feels simultaneously warm and cold, resinous and metallic, powdery and sharply modern.

When to Wear CŒUR

CŒUR is particularly suited to autumn and winter, when its amber, myrrh, cistus and woods can develop fully against the contrasting coolness of aldehydes and lavender.

Its metallic, resinous character also makes it an intriguing evening fragrance for anyone drawn to amber but looking for something less traditionally soft or sweet. The powdery orris and aromatic freshness give it polish, while the darker base provides lasting warmth and sensuality.
