Zoologist Squid is a dark, atmospheric marine fragrance inspired by the vast, unknowable depths of the ocean. Mysterious, inky and quietly haunting, it captures the tension between beauty and danger beneath the surface, where light fades and instinct takes over.

This is not a fresh aquatic. Squid is moody, saline and resinous, evoking brine soaked air, drifting incense smoke and the strange, soft sweetness of ambergris washed ashore. Elegant and unsettling in equal measure, it feels alive with movement and shadow.

What Does Squid Smell Like?

The fragrance opens with a sharp, mineral brightness. Pink pepper adds a subtle spark of heat, while solar salicylate brings an abstract sense of light refracted through water. Incense curls through the opening, creating a smoky, ritualistic atmosphere that immediately sets a somber tone.

At the heart, Squid dives deeper. A black ink accord spreads across the composition, smooth and slightly sweet, wrapped in a salty accord that feels oceanic without turning fresh. Opoponax adds resinous warmth, giving the scent a thick, almost velvety texture that feels suspended in darkness.

As it settles, the base reveals its quiet power. Ambergris forms the backbone of the fragrance, animalic, mineral and softly sweet, anchored by benzoin and musk. The dry down is intimate and lingering, like the scent left on skin after hours near the sea, mysterious and hard to define.
